Again this year, the St Augustine Yacht Club will play host to a dazzling parade of boats, when the captains and crews of many spectacular and colorfully decorated vessels compete for eighteen trophies along the Matanzas Bay during the 32nd Annual Holiday Regatta of Lights.
The annual Holiday Regatta of Lights will take place at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 8th. It is always a memorable occasion for visitors and local residents who will be able to view the event from the bayfront and seawall, Castillo de San Marcos National Monument, the Bridge of Lions, and from the eastern shore of Matanzas Bay.
This event reflects the maritime roots of our historic old city and is in keeping with St Augustine’s rich seaborne image and nautical heritage. The judging for the three classes of awards will take place just north of the Bridge of Lions.
There is still time for sailboats, sport-fishermen, trawlers, shrimp boats, and many other vessels to take part. Deadline for entry applications is Friday, December 7th. A mandatory Skipper’s meeting for participants will be held at the St Augustine Yacht Club, at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 8.
A reception and awards ceremony will be held at the St Augustine Yacht Club for the Captains and Crews of the boats in the parade. Awards will be made by a panel of judges.
The St Johns County Tourist Development Council, the St Augustine Port & Waterway
Beach District Commission and The Florida Inland Navigation District provided the necessary funding for this event. Promotional consideration for this announcement was provided by Historic City News in St Augustine.
