Assistant St Augustine City Manager Tim Burchfield confirmed for Historic City News today that the latest name on the 450th staff roster, “Volunteer Coordinator, Carl Gill”, is himself a volunteer and not one of the three compensated members of that office.
Saying that he appreciates the volunteer time Gill is committing to this position, Dana Ste. Claire, director of the St Augustine 450th Commemoration, told reporters that community volunteers are absolutely essential to the success of the 450th Commemoration.
“Gill is responsible for volunteer management — basically, if you would like to volunteer, he will match your experience and interests with the appropriate 450th Commemoration event, project or need,” Burchfield told reporters. “Gill’s immediate focus is recruiting volunteers for this year’s events.”
Gill’s area of expertise is information technology management, including information technology products and processes. He is currently an educator and consultant within the technology industry. He is also a volunteer with Walt Disney World. He and his wife, Susan, have lived in St Augustine for the past 24 years.
“We are so pleased to have Carl’s project management expertise and go-getter attitude to help us with this important aspect of the 450th Commemoration,” Dana Ste. Claire said. “We know this program is in good hands with Carl.”
The events this year include the Picasso: Art & Arena exhibit scheduled for February 1 to May 11, Ancient City Mosaic exhibit scheduled for April 26 to June 22, and the Maritime Heritage Festival scheduled for the week of November 30.

“We enjoy walking around our historic city on a daily basis,” Gill said of living in St Augustine. “My wife and I are natives of England, but we have taken St Augustine to our hearts and enjoy the historic ambiance that our city provides — and also the glorious weather.”
You can contact Gill by phone at 407.810.3785 or e-mail volunteer@staugustine-450.com if you have further questions.
