Historic City News was informed that one of the two drivers involved in a motor vehicle crash that occurred at about 6:45 a.m. this morning in the intersection at DuPont Center, has been taken to a local hospital in serious condition.
According to the report filed by FHP Trooper Neil Mariotti, 24-year-old Erik Stier, who lives in Palm Coast, was driving a 1991 Acura Integra, traveling north on US-1 from Flagler County.
Stier was traveling in the outside lane approaching the intersection of US-1 at SR-206, when a 2012 Ford F-150 pickup truck turned left into his pathway on a yellow light; causing the collision.
The truck was being driven by 52-year-old Jay Harris of St Augustine and was also occupied by 12-year-old Jake Harris — neither of whom needed medical attention, according to the incident report.
Harris was traveling south on US-1, in the left turn lane to eastbound SR-206. According to the evidence at the scene, Harris entered the intersection, and was waiting for northbound traffic to clear just before the crash occurred.
As the traffic light changed, Harris advanced his truck; striking the front of the Acura with the right-front of his vehicle — forcing both vehicles into a spin. The vehicles came to rest in the middle of the northbound lanes of US-1, Mariotti reported.
The crash caused about $15,000 in damages to the truck and about $5,000 in damages to the Acura.
St Johns County Fire Rescue transported Stier to Flagler Hospital in St Augustine with serious injuries. He was cited with operating a motor vehicle without insurance. Harris was cited for violation of right-of-way and released at the scene.
