Two and a half years after 18-year-old Shae Lynn Burchfield lost her life in a traffic crash in St Augustine, Historic City News has learned that her intoxicated assailant, 53-year-old Frederick James Andrews, has accepted a plea agreement that will send him to prison for five years.
Andews pled “no contest” to DUI manslaughter this morning and was sentenced to 5 years in prison, less credit for 588 days he has been in custody, followed by 10 years of probation and the loss of his drivers license for the remainder of his life.
“Let’s all put big smiles on our faces today in honor of Shae,” her father, Joe Burchfield wrote on his facebook after the sentencing hearing. “There was hardly ever a time she didn’t smile.”
Burchfield’s daughter, Shae, was killed on July 8, 2010, while riding a dirt bike on Wildwood Drive.
