Manhunt on for downtown bank robber

Saint Augustine Police spokesman Mark Samson alerted Historic City News that a joint manhunt with the St Johns County Sheriff’s Office is underway in downtown St Augustine after this morning’s robbery of Wells Fargo at 24 Cathedral Place.

Video surveillance from inside the bank reveals that the robbery was committed by a white man in his 40’s to early 50’s who committed the crime by handing a hand written note to a teller and demanding money.

“The robber told the teller that he had a bomb,” Samson told reporters. “She took him seriously and handed over an undisclosed amount of cash.”

The police department received the call at 9:06 a.m. Friday, February 8.

The man fled through the east door of the bank; into the rear parking lot along Charlotte Street.

Police have deployed tracking K-9’s to assist in the search.
