Jesse Olbrich announced to local Historic City News reporters that there will be two special events this weekend that should be of interest to the community; tonight, 1740 Siege Night, and Saturday night, Garrison Grand Muster.
On a related note, Olbrich told reporters that the Castillo de San Marcos National Monument staff has received word that both the Castillo and Fort Matanzas National Monuments have ranked #1 during last year in number of historic weapons demonstrations presented and number of visitors at those demonstrations.
“Thanks to our hard working and dedicated volunteer corps,” Olbrich said. “From all of us, thank you for helping us to create a wonderful experience for the visitor as well as the employees.”
Friday, March 22nd 1740 Siege Night
On Friday March 22nd, the Castillo de San Marcos will be hosting our annual 1740 Siege Night! It will be set up much the same as it was last year with short skits discussing different aspects of the siege in 1740. In order to effectively plan for the event we will need volunteers to let us know whether or not they can attend and help us out.
If you would like to assist us or have a question, please contact Ranger Joe Brehm at (904) 829-6506 x233 or Joe_Brehm@nps.gov.
Saturday, March 23rd Garrison Grand Muster
Join us Saturday March 23rd for a day of musket drill and different historical demonstrations in honor of the First Spanish Period here in St Augustine.
