In the early morning hours, shortly after midnight today, Historic City News was notified that traffic homicide investigators with the St Johns County Sheriff’s Office responded to a single-vehicle crash near the intersection of CR-208 and CR-13A South.
St Johns County emergency medical personnel found the driver, 23-year-old Jerad Dean Mazerolle, dead on arrival at the scene.
Investigators determined that Mazerolle had been traveling alone, westbound on CR-208, in a 2004 Ford F150 pickup truck that apparently ran off the road, to the north, and that the driver overcorrected.
Mazerolle lost control of the vehicle and it overturned, homicide investigators reported. He was not wearing a seatbelt, according to the incident report obtained by Historic City News; and the force of the crash caused him to be ejected from his vehicle.
Vehicle and available driving records indicate that Mazerolle’s address was 55051 Riverview Rd in Astor; but, authorities report that he was a St Johns County resident. He is survived by a 25-year-old brother and other family members who do live in the county.
Speed and alcohol are believed to be contributing factors in the crash; although the toxicology test results are not yet available to District 23 Medical Examiner, Dr. Predag Bulic.
