As work begins on the next phase of construction of the new $95 million four-lane roadway in southern Duval County, Historic City News readers interested in learning how the project will affect traffic or their neighborhood can attend a construction open house on Thursday afternoon, May 2nd.
The informal meeting will be at the Bartram Club located in Bartram Springs at 14540 Cherry Lake Drive East.
Informational handouts will be provided, and project personnel will be available to answer questions related to construction and the new roadway. The open house is an informal event, and no presentation will be provided. Attendees may stop by any time between 4 and 6 p.m. at their convenience.
Construction on this next phase of SR-9B began last week with clearing land near US-1, which will continue during the next few months along the three-mile footprint of the new roadway.
The Florida Department of Transportation plans to open the first phase of SR-9B, from US-1 to the I-295 East Beltway, this summer. This new roadway will help alleviate traffic congestion for motorists traveling between Duval and St Johns counties as a limited access highway, similar to an interstate.
The work is expected to be completed by summer 2016.
