A St Johns County woman lost her life, and her two male passengers, one only 2-years-old, were sent to the hospital after the driver flipped and rolled her 2005 Chevrolet Avalanche — an apparent attempt to avoid a crash with a slow moving vehicle that pulled in front of them on US-1, south of Wildwood Drive.
At about 8:30 A.M. this morning, the driver, 27-year-old Danielle L. Reeves who resided at 2735 Elsie Road in St Augustine, was travelling southbound on US-1 when a slow moving vehicle pulled onto the roadway.
Reeves swerved right onto the west shoulder of the highway, then overcorrect left; spinning counter-clockwise and overturning onto the right, southbound lane. According to traffic homicide investigators on the scene, the vehicle continued to roll into the median, ejecting the driver — who was not wearing her seatbelt.
The right side of the vehicle struck a sign post, coming to a final rest, right-side up, on the northbound lanes of US-1, facing northeast. The Chevrolet Avalanche suffered an estimated $12,000 in damages.
Two passengers in the vehicle, 29-year-old John Elliot Villa and 2-year-old John Alexander Villa, who reside at the same address as the driver, we stabilized by St Johns County Fire Rescue emergency medical personnel and transported to Flagler Hospital with minor injuries. Both passengers were wearing seatbelts.
