Historic City News readers who would like to participate on a local government advisory committee or volunteer board can take a more active role in county government by applying for one of a variety of current vacancies in St Johns County.
Board of County Commissioner’s manager Melissa Lundquist can provide an application or answer specific questions about current vacancies. St Johns County is currently accepting applications for the following volunteer Board and Committee vacancies:
Ponte Vedra Zoning & Adjustment Board
Vacancies: One
Purpose of Board: Regulate and restrict the height and size of buildings, intensity of land use, and area of yards, courts, and other space about buildings; to classify, regulate, and restrict the location of commerce and industries and the location of buildings designed for specified industrial, commercial, residential, and other uses within the Ponte Vedra Zoning District.
Qualifications: Must be a registered voter in St Johns County and reside in the Ponte
Vedra Zoning District. Members must file financial disclosure.Meeting Schedule: This board meets on the second Monday of each month at 3 p.m. in the County Auditorium, 500 San Sebastian View, St Augustine.

Health & Human Services Advisory Council
Vacancies: One
Purpose of Council: Evaluate human services programs in the community, assist in determining the effectiveness of programs, reduce duplication of services, and assure the health and human services needs of the residents of St Johns County are met. The council also reviews applications requesting County funding for programs that provide health, mental health, substance abuse, and social services, and submits recommendations to the Board of County Commissioners.
Qualifications: Members must be a registered voter in St Johns County. Current vacancy is an At-Large member. The council consists of five professionals preferably from the disciplines of health, mental health, substance abuse, or social services, and two at-large members, including but not limited to such compatible areas as business, banking and finance, education, law enforcement, religious community leaders, consumers, and any other interested parties comprising the general public.
Meeting Schedule: This board meets on-call as needed during the application review period, and on the third Thursday of each month at 4:30 p.m. in the Health and Human Services conference room, 1955 U.S. 1 South, St Augustine.

Library Advisory Board
Vacancies: One
Purpose of Board: Advise the County on the establishment, operation, and maintenance of free public library services within St Johns County.
Qualifications: Seeking representation from County Districts.
Meeting Schedule: This board meets on the second Wednesday of each month at
9:30 a.m. with the meeting location rotating each month to a specific branch library.Application Submission Deadline: Friday, June 21
Adjustment & Appeals Board
Vacancies: Four; one alternate
Purpose of Board: Hear requests for code interpretation and cases for unsafe building abatement codes.
Qualifications: Seeking appointees with knowledge and/or experience in technical-codes fields and those of the general public. Must be a registered voter in St Johns County. Regular members serve a term of two years and alternates serve a term of one year. Members must file financial disclosure.
Meeting Schedule: This Board meets on call as needed in conference room 1A/1B of the
County Permit Center, 4040 Lewis Speedway, St Augustine.Application Submission Deadline: Friday, June 21
