Historic City News readers are invited to attend Family Fun Day at the Fountain of Youth Archaeological Park presented by St Augustine Maritime Heritage Foundation.
Participants will be able to see the progress being made by Maritime Heritage Foundation craftsmen who are building a replica chalupa; used by the first sailors who came to St Augustine during the 16th century.
“Go back in time with our boat builders and find out what it was like 450 years ago to sail on these incredible ships,” Roy Jaeger told reporters. “Activities will include model boat building and races, ship wreck artifacts, youth sailboat rigging, many demonstrations, fun exhibits and hands-on activities.”
The First Annual Family Fun Day will begin Saturday, June 8th at 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the Fountain of Youth Archaeological Park; located at 11 Magnolia Avenue in St Augustine. Admission is free to St Augustine and St Johns County residents with picture identification.
The St Augustine Maritime Heritage Foundation is a non-profit organization and it was founded to educate and promote Saint Augustine’s rich maritime history.
