One captured – one sought in burglary investigation

At about 1:30 a.m. this morning, sheriff’s deputies were called to a residence on Golf Ridge Drive in Cypress Links, when the owner reported that someone was trying to burglarize his vehicle, media relations officer Kevin Kelshaw told Historic City News today.

The victim activated the remote panic alarm in the vehicle, startling the burglar who fled the scene.

As deputies arrived, they noticed two vehicles leaving the neighborhood and they attempted to conduct traffic stops to determine if the drivers were involved, or had witnessed anything.

The drivers of both vehicles refused the commands of the deputies, refusing to stop.

One of the vehicles, a 2002 Chrysler PT Cruiser driven by 15-year-old St Johns County resident, Trevon Jamal Anderson, who resides at 8 West 3rd Street, was pursued eastbound onto SR-207. As he made his escape, Anderson reportedly almost struck one officer who was on foot.

Anderson slowed as he approached SR-312, then intentionally struck the patrol car and sped away. Anderson eventually crashed the vehicle into Car Quest on SR-207 and was taken into custody.

Charges against Anderson include fleeing and attempting to elude a law enforcement officer, two counts of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, and driving without a license. He was booked into the County Jail and turned over to the Department of Juvenile Justice.

The second vehicle, a 2004 Ford Explorer, which investigators believe was driven by a 13-year-old male, was last seen driving into a wooded area east of Golf Ridge Drive. Deputies drove into the hunting club and located the vehicle about a mile into the woods. The Explorer was reported as stolen from a residence in the 5300 block of Cypress Links Boulevard. The driver could not be located and is still being sought for questioning.
