Colonial Crew Revue – area’s only show of its kind

Private Entrepreneur, Pat Croce, announced to local Historic City News reporters that his Colonial Quarter Museum will debut a brand new live-action musical and comedy show, “Colonial Crew Revue” beginning on Saturday, June 22, and then continuing every Friday and Saturday at 8:00 p.m.

Sangria, wine, draft beer and soft drinks, plus savory snacks, are complimentary and unlimited throughout the show Saturday evening. Tickets for adults are $29.99 and children $14.99. St Johns County residents, active military, college students, AAA members, University of Florida alumni, and senior citizens receive a $2 off discount for adults and $1 off for children with identification.

“We will entertain up to 250 lucky ticket holders in a enchanting performance that stands on its own two feet as a unique, immersive experience that is entertaining for everybody,” said Pat Croce, Colonial Quarter’s Chairman and the Executive Producer of Colonial Crew Revue. “There’s simply nothing like this show in St Augustine.”

Colonial Crew Revue takes place on Colonial Quarter’s custom-crafted stage, beneath the stately Colonial Oak in the attraction’s 16th century Spanish garrison town section. The show forms the perfect union of entertainment and education, translating the dramatic moments of St Augustine’s Colonial history into a high-energy, live-action musical show.

Full of magic and comedy, Colonial Crew Revue showcases the talent of a traveling troupe of performers, the “Picolata Players”, who are preparing to entertain the troops at the Castillo de San Marcos. Traveling performers were once attacked by Seminole Indians in Picolata, Florida, a tiny town on the eastern banks of the St Johns River. In the classic spirit of “the show must go on,” the handful of survivors forged onward — roughly 20 miles east to St Augustine, where they were scheduled to perform that evening. Despite having lost wagons full of props and costumes in addition to many members of their troupe, the “players” performed as planned to a wondrous reception.

“Humor was obviously essential in writing the show, but it was vital that history play a part as well,” said Scott Abrams, Colonial Crew Revue’s writer and director, as well as one of the show’s actors. “Picolata fit the bill perfectly — It’s a small place few have heard of, but that everyone wants to know about once they hear the name because it sounds so unique and fun – just like our show.”

Abrams is just one actor in an awe-inspiring cast of St Augustine-area performers: Diego Bermudez, Andrew Deveroux, Mollie Gillis, Madi Mack, William McRea, Andrew Nance, and Sydney Zaruba round out the Picolata Players. Colonial Crew Revue features and relies extensively on audience participation throughout its show, and afterwards, cast members will guide audience members to the Taberna del Caballo, Colonial Quarter’s Spanish-inspired, open-air restaurant a stone’s throw away, for a delightful meet-and-mingle experience that features the opportunity to converse with the cast and receive autographs whilst raising a toast.
