Velo Fest Executive Director, Heather Neville, announced to Historic City News that the local community initiative has made progress on their plan to make bicycles a major part of the transportation program for the Mumford and Son’s Gentlemen of the Road Stopover on September 13, and 14th.
Velo Fest aims to increase the destination experience through a dynamic plan which includes “park-and-ride” lots, a bike valet program, and an intricate volunteer network that gives visitors the ability to see a larger area of St Augustine, and hopefully build a framework for future large events.
“In March, Velo Fest was contacted, initially to see if we wanted to be involved; it has turned into a huge initiative to facilitate an ongoing concern,” Neville told reporters today. “We wanted to figure out how to help and to give back at the same time.”
As St Augustine prepares for this epic event, Velo Fest has been busy planning to facilitate some of the transportation needs of the festival goers. The plan, with the tagline “Be a gentleman on the road”, is in its final stages of review with the City of St Augustine and will be rolled out soon, according to Neville.
