The Florida Highway Patrol in St Johns County is asking Historic City News readers to come forward if they witnessed the Thursday evening crash at about 9:15 p.m. just south of Marlin Avenue on SR-A1A that left one Ponte Vedra Beach bicyclist dead.
Trooper Ronald L Roberts responded to the scene, together with Traffic Homicide Investigator Corporal Brian Wood, after 26-year-old Sean Michael Stevens of Ponte Vedra Beach was struck and killed as he rode his bicycle southbound, in the bicycle lane, along SR-A1A.
“If there were any witnesses to this crash, please contact the Florida Highway Patrol,” Roberts said. “Charges are pending the results of blood alcohol level tests of the driver and decedent.”
According to the crash report, 50-year-old Saundra Lea Scofield of Ponte Vedra Beach was driving her 1999 Toyota 4Runner and struck Stevens and his bicycle as she approached him from the rear.
