Flagler Sheriff offers Independence Day tips

The long July 4 weekend is expected to draw large crowds to Flagler County’s beaches and Flagler County Sheriff Donald W. Fleming is urging residents and visitors to take a few precautions to protect themselves and their possessions while they celebrate.

• Always remove valuables from sight when you are leaving your parked vehicle. Remember to roll up the windows and lock the doors.
• If you’re headed for the beach, make sure you lock your home before you leave. Check all windows and doors to be sure thieves cannot access your home.
• Don’t drink and drive. The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office will be patrolling local roadways as part of a traffic enforcement effort to identify impaired drivers.
• When it comes to fireworks, let the professional handle. State law prohibits the private use of such fireworks as rockets that can be launched, projectile fireworks and M80s. Smoke devices, snappers and party poppers are allowed.
