St Johns County Sergeant Michael Strausbaugh is asking Historic City News readers for assistance identifying two women, caught on surveillance video, in the act of stealing a woman’s purse from a baby stroller in the GAP Outlet located at 2700 SR-16 in St Augustine.
Working as an apparent team, one of the women distracted the victim — while the other snatched the victim’s purse. The victim and her family were shopping at St. Augustine Outlet Mall and the GAP store on Thursday, August 8th at 4:15 p.m. when the theft occurred.
“The accomplice kept the victim distracted while the thief removed $16 in cash and an I-Phone valued at about $250,” Strausbaugh told local reporters. “The victim’s purse was located after the crime; it had been discarded on one of the merchandise displays in an aisle nearby.”
The criminals can be clearly seen in the video. One was wearing dark blue pants, a white blouse, tennis shoes, and had long dark hair. The second was wearing a long white print dress, black sweater a dark ball cap with white sandals.
