Entertainment in St Augustine this week

Local Resident Specials

St Johns County residents with valid identification are always admitted free of charge to the Oldest House, the Lightner Museum, the Fountain of Youth (special events excluded), the Ximenez-Fatio House, the Oldest Wooden Schoolhouse, City Walks History Mystery Murder Evening Tour and the Hotel Ponce de Leon Legacy Tours at Flagler College. The daily tours and wine tastings at the San Sebastian Winery are free to everyone. Also, admission is free to everyone at the Fort Matanzas National Monument, St Photios Chapel, the Pena-Peck House, the Father Miguel O’Reilly Museum and the Mission Nombre de Dios Museum. Many other local attractions offer discounted admissions to St Johns County residents with valid identification.

Monday – Monday: August 26 – September 2
Ordinary People – This exhibit is a colorful, folksy presentation featuring some of St. Augustine’s first colonists. The exhibit is open daily from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. at the St. Augustine Visitor Information Center, 10 Castillo Dr.

 

Ignorance is a Choice Art Exhibit – Artist Donny Miller’s Ignorance is a Choice exhibit on display at St. Augustine’s space:eight Gallery. Donny’s unique graphic style of pairing seemingly benign images with witty declarations about humanity is as much philosophic as it is artistic. Monday – Saturday: August 26 – 31
 4TH Annual Nature & Wildlife Exhibit – This stunning exhibition features landscapes, floral, marine life, birds, plant life and more. The St. Augustine Art Association Gallery, 11 Marine Street, is open Tuesday – Saturday noon – 4 p.m. and Sunday 2 – 5 p.m. Admission is free. 904-824-2310

 

Monday – Friday: August 26 – 30
Gallery Exhibition at the Cultural Center of Ponte Vedra Beach– The Cultural Center at Ponte Vedra Beach, 50 Executive Way, hosts an exhibition of the works of Lucy Clark and Karlene McConnell titled Raw Umber. Also on exhibit, the Art of Ballet. Admission is free. The gallery is open 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday – Friday. 904-280-0614

 

 

Wednesday:  August 28
Farmer’s Arts and Crafts Market – Farmers’ Market located at the ocean-side St. Johns County Pier Park, 350 A1A Beach Blvd., St. Augustine Beach. Features selections of fresh produce, plants, baked goods, fine art, jewelry and more!  Open 8 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. rain or shine.  904-347-8007

 

Music By The Sea Concert Series 2013 – Live concert with the band Big Lonesome playing southern blues takes place from 7-9 p.m. at the St. Augustine Beach Pier Pavilion, 350 A1A Beach Blvd. Admission is free and local restaurant Gypsy Cab will offer signature dinners for $10. For comfortable seating, bring a folding chair.

 

Thursday: August 29
Concerts in the Plaza – Bring a lawn chair or blanket to sit and enjoy a free live concert with Lonesome Bert & the Skinny Lizards from 7-9 p.m. in St. Augustine’s historic Plaza de la Constitucion, 1 King St.

 

 

 

Saturday: August 31
Old City Farmers’ Market – Features locally grown fresh produce, baked goods, plants and more. Open 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. St. Augustine Amphitheatre, 1340 A1A South.

Geocaching Program at Washington Oaks State Park – Park Service Specialist Melissa Clauson presents a fascinating program on geocaching and then takes participants on an expedition to locate geo caches throughout the park.  Participants will need to bring their own GPS or Cell Phone to this program. Cell phone users will need to download the Florida State Park Pocket Ranger App. The program takes place from 10 – 11 a.m.  Reservations are required. Washington Oaks State Park is located at 6400 N. Friends of Anastasia State Park Dogs and Jam –  The Friends of Anastasia host an early Labor Day celebration called Dogs and Jam right outside of Island Beach Grill in the Park. From 6-9 p.m., enjoy free, freshly grilled hot dogs with all the fixings and jam out to the music. Dogs are free; drinks are a $1 donation. Anastasia State Park is located at

1340-A A1A South, St. Augustine.

 

Civil Rights and Black Heritage Tour– St. Augustine Black Heritage Tours Inc. will offer a free historic walking tour at 5 p.m. Learn about St. Augustine’s historic role in Black History and events leading up to the Civil Rights act of 1964. Tours depart from the Tour Saint Augustine office, 4 Granada Street and encompass several blocks over the course of an hour. Space is limited and advance reservations are required. 904-825-0087

 

Uptown Saturday Night – From 5 – 9 p.m. on the last Saturday of each month, experience live music, refreshments, new exhibits, book signings and much more at the galleries, antique stores and unique shop on St. Augustine’s San Marco Ave. between Ripley’s Museum and the Mission Nombre de Dios. Monday: September 2
Labor Day Concert in the Plaza – Enjoy a free live concert with The St. Augustine Jazz Society as they present the final Plaza Concert of the season in St. Augustine’s historic Plaza de la Constitucion. From 1 to 3 p.m. E.T. Swings The Thing featuring Lorri Gill, vocalist will be on stage. Then from 3:15 to 5:15 p.m., The Company, one of North Florida’s top music groups will perform. Bring a chair or blanket for comfortable seating.
