County holds 9-11 Commemoration Ceremony

Historic City News readers are invited to attend Wednesday morning when a firing of volleys by the Sheriff’s Office, a rendition of Amazing Grace on bagpipe by Deputy Craig Harrison, and taps sounds on trumpet by Deputy Kyle Brownett; all part of a 9-11 Commemoration Ceremony in St Johns County.

The Navy Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps will present the colors and perform the raising and lowering of the flag, while Faith Miller, a local 12-year old vocalist, will sing the national anthem.

This commemoration is being held in conjunction with the St Johns County 2013 Employee Safety Expo, beginning at 8:30 a.m. on September 11 at the St Johns County Agricultural Center; located at 3125 Agricultural Center Drive in St Augustine.

Retired National Guard Sergeant Major and Former County Commissioner Ray Quinn will serve as Master of Ceremonies, and County Commission chairman, Jay Morris, will lead the pledge of allegiance, followed by a minute of silence at 8:46 a.m. — the exact time the first plane, hijacked by terrorists, struck the Twin Towers in New York City.

Fire Rescue will ring a bell for fallen public-safety servants and Commissioner Morris will provide commemoration remarks.
