St Johns County Supervisor of Elections, Vicky Oakes, reported to Historic City News that she has returned from today’s regional meeting called by Secretary of State Ken Detzner. This is the second of five planned meetings to announce the statewide “Project Integrity” — a plan to identify and remove ineligible voters from voter rolls in Florida.
Duval County Supervisor of Elections, Jerry Holland, hosted Oakes and other northeast Florida Supervisors for roundtable discussions with the Secretary, and to collaborate to continue to protect the integrity of Florida’s voter rolls.
“Today’s meeting was well attended by thirteen Supervisors of Elections,” Oakes reported. “Secretary Detzner and Director Maria Mathews, of the Division of Elections, addressed everyone’s main concern — valid documentation must be provided for any voter’s registration that comes into question.”
According to plans and a flow chart distributed to those who attended today’s session, the Florida Division of Elections will employ an automated process to compare Florida Voter Registration System records to data contained in the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, Driver and Vehicle Information Database, as well as the US Department of Homeland Security, Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements database.
Oakes says that she learned that each potential ineligible voter, identified through Project Integrity, will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis by Division staff.
The meetings will continue around the state; receiving input from the public and Supervisors of Elections before the new process is finalized. A starting date for implementing the project has yet to be determined, Oakes said.
