Public Information Officer Mark Samson updated Historic City News reporters on this weekend’s activity by the St Augustine Police Department.
On Saturday, Police responded to the Bridge of Lions to assist a bicyclist who caught his handlebars on the railing causing him to crash. The patient was transported by St Johns County Fire Rescue to Flagler Hospital with a head injury.
Four DUI arrests were made over the weekend by St Augustine police, during an enhanced joint-enforcement operation with the St Johns County Sheriff’s Office and St Augustine Beach Police Department.
Target told police they are having an on-going shoplifting problem. A report was filed.
A marine construction company at 150 Riberia reported the theft of $8,750 of couplings and fittings. Local salvage yards were notified.
A business at 100 Arricola Avenue reported a large plate glass window cracked when employees arrived at work, a search of the area turned up no clues in the case.
Police were called to the scene of a distraught young man who officers believe ingested a large bottle of acetaminophen and a large bottle of Ibuprofen. When officers arrived at the Walgreens located at North Ponce de Leon Boulevard and SR-16, the man ran from them, behind the store, and into the river. Officers coaxed him out of the water safely and he was turned over to the Department of Children and Families for an involuntary psychiatric exam.
The Flagler College Women’s Basketball Team and a security guard at Local Hero’s on Spanish Street got into a disagreement. Punches were thrown, but no charges have been filed at this point.
Heavy equipment operators reported the theft a battery from a city-owned bulldozer that is kept on Holmes Boulevard. The battery is valued $150.
Homeowners at 22 Sevilla Street reported a broken car window yesterday morning, but nothing is missing.
The resident at 138 Masters Drive reported that his vehicle license plate was taken. It has been entered into the state and national crime computer as stolen.
Police were able to locate the driver and passenger of a motor scooter that was observed leaving the Kangaroo convenience store located at 800 South Ponce de Leon Boulevard after a case of beer was stolen. Both were arrested for the theft; the driver was operating the scooter with a suspended license.
Police responded to an early-morning burglary at 224 San Marco Avenue, and arrived to find the front glass door kicked out and a trail of blood leading away. Evidence has been collected from the scene. From what the store owner can see, nothing is missing. There was some minor damage done inside the store and to his door. No arrest has been made at this time.
