Local St. Augustine reporters at Historic City News have learned that sometime between 3:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. last Friday afternoon, a car was stolen from the Winn Dixie parking lot at SR-207 and US-1 South.
Police Officer Frank Shipp responded to the scene to investigate the theft of a 2001 Mitsubishi Gallant.
The vehicle owner to police that he parked in the lot and went inside to do his shopping.
When the victim returned, the vehicle was missing. According to the victim, the keys to the vehicle had been left inside.
Police were able to recover security video showing a white man, wearing a green t-shirt, blue shorts, and a black back pack, entering the vehicle and driving out of the parking lot.
Community Affairs Officer Barbara Stevens of the St. Augustine Police Department reports that the vehicle was entered into the FCIC-NCIC police network as stolen. The investigation is ongoing.
