St. Johns River Community College criminal justice academy announced to Historic City News local reporters that cadets representing St. Johns, Clay, Putnam, Duval, Flagler, Broward and Miami-Dade counties received their certificates of completion for the law enforcement basic recruit program.
The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office, St. Augustine Police Department and Clay County Sheriff’s Office opened the ceremony with the “presentation of colors” followed by the cadets reciting the code of ethics. The guest speaker was Duval County School District Police Sergeant Robert Dolan.
Special recognition went to (left to right) Clay County resident Benjamin Batson the “Medallion Award” for highest overall achievement, Clay County resident Nicholas Burke for “Highest Marksmanship Achievement” and to Duval County resident Dean Surrency for “Highest Academic Achievement”. Law enforcement basic recruit graduates from St. Johns County: Adam Becker, Bryan Behrmann, Nicholas Cooper, Chase Gorey, Matthew Hobbs, Peter James, Jeff Keller, Arline Moloughney and Kyle Vellenga.
Law enforcement basic recruit graduates from Clay County: Benjamin Batson, Nicholas Burke, Mark Edwards, Richard Griner, Chris Kelso, Katherine Olan, Jeffrey Phillips, Keri Royston, Kenneth Ryan and Richard Wiggins.

Law enforcement basic recruit graduates from Duval County: Donald Bush, Michael Mullis, Zachary Stephens, Dean Surrency and Kristel Vanderheiden.
Graduates from other counties include Robert Dolan Jr. (Broward), James Dopp (Flagler), Steven Jewels (Flagler), Robert Menard (Miami-Dade), Stanley Paul-Noel (Miami-Dade) and Herbert Rothermel Jr. (Flagler).
The criminal justice certificate programs provide job-related training to prepare cadets for entry-level employment in their career field. Cadets who complete the certificate program will be eligible to take the state certification exam.
The program is located on the St. Augustine Campus. The next corrections basic recruit class begins August 16th while the next law enforcement basic recruit evening class begins September 28th.
