Three pets die in Porposise Road fire last night

Jeremy Robshaw, Public Information Officer with St. Johns County Fire Rescue, informed Historic City News local reporters that in total, seven pieces of firefighting apparatus and 15 emergency personnel responded to a residential structure fire on Porpoise Road at approximately 9:45pm last night.

Upon arrival, firefighters with St. Johns County Fire Rescue and the City of St. Augustine Fire Department observed dark smoke coming from the front door of the structure.

Firefighters met with the homeowner who stated the home was evacuated and that the fire was located in the kitchen area.

Firefighters made access to the home and quickly contained the fire to the kitchen with the use of a portable fire extinguisher. Additional crews arrived and completed a search of the structure for any additional fire or hot spots.

Complete salvage and overhaul was conducted in the home to ensure no hidden fire remained and to prevent further damage to the residence. Fire damage was contained to the kitchen and ceiling area with limited smoke and water damage present throughout the structure.

During the initial search of the home, firefighters found two pets inside that did not survive the fire. The resident removed a third pet, unfortunately, it also died at the scene.

According to the report, no one was injured during this incident and the cause of the fire is currently under investigation by St. Johns County Fire Rescue.
