Business owners organize Fiesta de Aviles

Local Historic City News reporters learned that members of the St. Augustine City Commission will lead a ceremony to mark the commencement of the Aviles St. Rehabilitation Project on Friday, July 30th beginning at 9:00 a.m.

The public is invited to the brief ceremony on Aviles Street between King Street and Artillery Lane. Following the ceremony, and continuing until late Friday evening, Aviles Street businesses will host the Fiesta de Aviles.

Aviles Street between King Street and Cadiz Street will be closed to vehicular traffic on Friday, from 8:00 a.m. until midnight.

According to Fiesta organizers, the Fiesta will feature a wide assortment of activities including:

• Antiques and Uniques – Half Off Storewide Sale; one day only
• Aviles Gallery – Local award-winning Plein Air artist will be painting in the street until 9:00 pm, with galleries serving light refreshments
• Bolero and Cool Beads – Fashion shows and demonstrations throughout the day on Making the Most of your Accessories and 10 Ways to Wear a Scarf
• Casa de Solana – Plein Air artists bring their creations to life in the courtyard
• Cellar 6 – Come wine down and enjoy appetizers and live music
• La Herencia – Enjoy their famous empanadas while joining in a live tango presentation after 6:00pm
• Madre’s – Serving outdoor appetizers and live music after 4:00pm
• Moultrie Creek Studios – Will have a “People’s Painting” with an easel and canvas board set up outside for visitors to paint on. Anyone may participate and watch the wonderful event as it unfolds
• Plum Gallery – Serving wine spritzers and light hors d’oeuvres
• Spanish Military Hospital – Experience living history with the Hospital and their tour guides. See how mini amputations and dental procedures were performed.
• Worley Faver Pottery Studio and Gallery ­– Worley will be in the gallery with his latest pottery creation under construction. There will be exciting new oils by C. Ford Riley, Claire J. Kendrick, Richard S. Morgan, pastels by Lyn Asselta; watercolors by Thomas Pearrow, Dick Zayac and Richard Warholic’s new mixed media pieces.
