St Johns County League of Women Voters have announced to Historic City News that there has been a last-minute Candidate Forum change for tonight’s event.
According to League spokesperson, Pat Gill, the forum, previously announced to include Senate District 6 candidates, ran into a scheduling conflict when incumbent Florida Senator John Thrasher informed the League that he would be unable to attend. Gill told local reporters that she also invited the Circuit Judges who will be on the Primary Election ballots in St Johns County. She said that it was her understanding that most will be in attendance.
“I think it would be a great opportunity for our voters to see and hear the judicial candidates,” Gill said.
Topics of discussion will include voting rights, charter schools and vouchers, off-shore drilling and fracking, Florida’s rejection of Medicaid funds, as well as water and the environment issues should time permit. The forum also will be cablecast live over public access Channel 3.
If you plan to attend, the forum is being held in the St Johns County Auditorium, located at 500 San Sebastian View in St Augustine, beginning at 7:00 p.m. If you cannot attend, you can still listen and watch the candidates which will be streamed live on St Johns County Government TV cable channel 3 and the Internet.
The league will hold a similar forum on August 12 for candidates for St. Johns County Commission.
