The St. Johns County Public Library System and Flagler College Radio WFCF are pleased to host Grammy Nominee John McCutcheon in a FREE concert at Flagler Auditorium on Saturday, September 6, at 7:00 pm.
For nearly 35 years John McCutcheon has filled the air with songs – songs written for children as well as their parents, and songs that sing the wonders of the world. He’s mastered banjo, guitar, fiddle, autoharp and hammer dulcimer, to the point that Johnny Cash has called him “the most impressive instrumentalist I’ve ever heard.â€
He has earned five Grammy nominations as well as a loyal, multi-generational following in the process. McCutcheon’s works often combine music and literature making him the perfect artist to celebrate September as National Literacy Month and Library Card Sign Up Month.
His album Mightier than the Sword collaborates with multiple authors to bridge music and books, creating an album that is literature you can hum. McCutcheon offers that “it’s about the joy that these writers have brought to me. You can see their thumb prints alongside of mine.†His newest album, Sermon on the Mound, was released in April and features baseball-themed songs.
Library System Director Debra Rhodes Gibson encourages all music lovers to come hear this talented artist perform from his extensive repertoire. She is “delighted that Flagler College Radio has partnered with us for the second year to bring this evening of musical story telling back to St. Augustine.â€
Concert goers who bring their Library Card to the event may be entered into a drawing for two complimentary tickets to either the Florida Heritage Book Festival’s “Meet the Author Reception†at the Markland House on Friday, September 12, or to hear Water for Elephants author Sara Gruen at the Sawgrass Marriott on Friday, October 24.
Learn more about this singer, songwriter and author on the Library’s website at www.sjcpls.org or at www.folkmusic.com.
Also, tune in to WFCF FM 88.5 to hear McCutcheon’s songs as well as other great music.
The FREE concert is funded by the Florida Arts License Plate Program and sponsored by the St. Johns County Public Library System in conjunction with Flagler College Radio WFCF and the Messages Concert Series. Doors open for seating at 6:30 pm and the show begins at 7 pm.
