Historic City News readers are invited to experience the Spanish heritage of St Augustine and the direct pathway into the past provided by 16th century Aviles Street; the oldest street in the nation. Admission for spectators is free of charge, so bring the whole family.
The event kicks off on Friday evening with a special First Friday Art Walk featuring Aviles Street artists. The 5th Annual Fiesta de Aviles celebrates St. Augustine’s ancient heritage with live music, costumes, art exhibits, dancing, and a special running of the bulls on Saturday, October 4th. The activities continue on Sunday, October 5th from 4:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. each day.
All events are being held on Aviles Street, south of King Street in the heart of the St. Augustine Town Plan National Historic Landmark District, across from the east end of the Plaza de la Constitucion.
The Running of the Bulls begins on Saturday, October 4, 2014. This event will pit a special guest “bull” (a local businessman in costume riding a Segway) in a short race down Aviles Street against kids and adults alike for special gift certificates offered by the local merchants.
The live music schedule along Aviles Street over the two-day event (October 4 – 5, 2014) will be announced, but is always lots of fun for the whole family.
Sunday, Oct. 5th is Sangria Sunday. There will be a sangria contest with tasting and public voting. Alcoholic and non-alcoholic samples will be available so that the entire family may enjoy this festive and tasteful event.
Fiesta de Aviles is sponsored by the Aviles Street Merchants Association, who work to preserve and celebrate the vibrant history of Aviles Street.
