Police Chief Mike Chitwood told local reporters that the men were inside the Bad Boys Bar in the 600 block of Main Street just before 2:00 a.m. on October 19, when trouble erupted inside. As the disturbance broke up, it was discovered that two men were members of a motorcycle gang and each was armed with a loaded firearm.
Authorities said the bikers both have concealed weapons permits, but it’s against the law to bring weapons into a place where alcohol is served — even with a permit.
Mahlow was the man who reportedly asked the owner to overlook St Johns County deputy sheriff Jeremy Banks’ rowdy behavior during a visit to the Ring of Fire bar on Anastasia Boulevard in St Augustine the night after the death of Banks’ girlfriend, Michelle O’Connell.
According to a witness affidavit, signed by Danny Harmon, Banks was a frequent patron of the bar that has since closed. That night Mahlow and Banks were drinking; and Banks, who the owner said he had asked to leave “on many occasions”, was getting unruly.
When he brought Mahlow and Banks their drinks, Harmon said he heard Banks say, “That bitch got what she deserved. All she did was make me feel bad and I’m not going to let her ruin my life.”
Mahlow and Untermeyer have been released from custody on bond, no court date has been announced.
