Historic City News was informed by Publicity Coordinator, Rhonda McCahill, that on the third Thursday of every month at 7:30 p.m., beginning January 15th, Parents, Families and Friends, of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG) will hold meetings at the Universalist Unitarian Fellowship located at 2487 A1A South in St Augustine.
PFLAG St Augustine welcomes the participation and support of all who share in, and hope to realize our mission to promote the health and wellbeing of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender persons, their families and their friends.
“Prior to the start of this new chapter, residents of St Johns County would have to travel to Jacksonville or Gainesville to attend a meeting,” PFLAG St Augustine Chapter President, Dan Sostrom, told local reporters this week. “We are thrilled that we will be able to hold meetings right here in St Augustine.”
Sostrom, can provide information at 904-853-0808.
McCahill told Historic City News that PFLAG St Augustine’s hope is to end discrimination and to secure civil rights of the LGBTQ community through support, education, and advocacy.
Founded in 1972 with the simple act of a mother publicly supporting her gay son, PFLAG is the original family and ally organization. Made up of parents, families, friends, and allies uniting with people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ), PFLAG is committed to advancing equality through its mission of support, education, and advocacy. PFLAG has more than 350 chapters and 200,000 supporters crossing multiple generations of American families in major urban centers, small cities, and rural areas in all 50 states.
