Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead

Historic City News readers will be entertained by members of the Flagler College Theatre Arts Department, in conjunction with the St. Johns County Center for the Arts at St. Augustine High School, during the next two-weekend’s performance of “Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead”.

This modern classic, presented by special permission of Samuel French, examines the behind-the-scenes world of Shakespeare’s “Hamlet” with a comic and existential twist.

“Very funny, very brilliant, very chilling; it has the dust of thought about it and the particles glitter excitingly in the theatrical air,” the New York Times said of the Tom Stoppard Tony Award-winning play.

Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are old school friends of Hamlet who find themselves at the Danish court, but don’t know how they got there, or why.

Through the course of the play, the two encounter Hamlet, Ophelia, Claudius, Gertrude and Polonius, along with a troupe of players who have been sent to perform at court.

Performances can be seen at Flagler’s Lewis Auditorium, located at 14 Granada Street in downtown St. Augustine, on February 20, 21, 27, and 28 at 7:30 p.m., and on February 22 and March 1, at 2:00 p.m.

Tickets are $15 for general admission and $5 for students with valid ID.
