National Library Week

Debra Rhodes Gibson, St. Johns County Public Library Director, informed Historic City News that our local Library System will join libraries nationwide in celebrating National Library Week April 12 – 18.

National Library Week is a time to highlight the changing role of libraries, librarians, and other library support staff.

“The library has always been a place of unlimited possibilities,” Gibson told local reporters. “Whatever your interest or need, the library and the library staff are here to provide you the resources you need to accomplish your goals and dreams.”

Libraries and librarians transform lives in the community through innovative educational resources and forward-thinking programming.

Libraries take part in closing digital divide by providing free access to information and technologies that many in their communities would not have access to elsewhere.

These services are available to anyone regardless of race, ethnicity, creed, age, ability, sexual orientation, gender identity, or socio-economic status.

The St. Johns County Public Library System serves their residents by providing: books, audios, e-government tools, movies, electronic resources, online databases, and public Internet computers, programs for adults and children, and community meeting spaces.
