The Florida Department of Transportation has invited all Historic City News readers to discuss potential solutions to the traffic congestion experienced on US-1 (Ponce De Leon Boulevard) at West San Carlos Avenue and on San Marco Avenue at San Carlos Avenue and May Street.
Discussion of a roundabout as a solution during the failed attempt to safely accommodate a 7-Eleven convenience store with gasoline pumps at that intersection, has given way to new proposed alternatives.
“We currently have under consideration the addition of a left-turn lane on West San Carlos Avenue at the US-1 (Ponce De Leon Boulevard) intersection, re-aligning May Street to connect with West San Carlos Avenue and converting West San Carlos Avenue and Dismukes Street into one-way streets,” the project facilitator explained to local Historic City News reporters last week.
The Open House meeting begins on Tuesday, June 16, 2015, at 4:30 p.m. with comments beginning at 6:30 p.m. as part of the Project Development and Environment study.
Please plan to attend the meeting being held at the Holiday Inn Hotel and Suites located at 1302 Ponce de Leon Boulevard in St. Augustine and take advantage of this opportunity to review the proposed improvements and to contribute your written or verbal comments.
Public participation is sought without regard to race, color, religion, sex, age, national origin, disability or family status. Special accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act or persons who require translation services (free of charge) should contact Stephen Browning seven days prior to the meeting.
