Historic City News congratulates Corporal James D. Giammarinaro Sr. on his retirement from the St. Augustine Police Department after 25-years of service. He has been an asset to our city and his talents will be missed.
Known affectionately around the Police Department and in St. Augustine as “G-11”, because of the length of the spelling of his last name, he was hired at the Police Department on November 26, 1990 and his last day on the job was Thursday May 28, 2015.
Throughout his career, Giammarinaro worked as a patrolman, a detective, the department’s training supervisor, and his most recent assignment was as an assistant shift supervisor. He held the rank of Corporal.
G-11 has always been an advocate of child safety, a passion he still holds today. He wrote a book about keeping your child safe and spent his own money to have it published. Giammarinaro turned 49-years-old in December, and that month, he incorporated Child Safety Team, Inc.
He has worked part-time for many years instructing Tae Kwon Do to children; and, now that he is retired, he has plans to continue to teach the sport. Jim and his wife Tonya live in Elkton.
