Only 1-year and 9-months after moving to St Augustine from Bluffton, South Carolina, the Record editor with the funny sounding title, “Director of Audience”, calls it quits; joining the world of the unemployed, at least for the time being.
In St Augustine, Nelson was responsible for newsroom operations, all online content and revenue initiatives that help grow audience — both online and in print, according to the Morris press announcement.
In December 2010, about 4 1/2 years-ago, Nelson went to work as Metro editor at another Morris publication, “Savannah Morning News”. A shot at advancement came for Nelson with an offer to be “editor” at the small town print newspaper, “Bluffton Today”. All three newspapers are owned by Morris Publications.
She resigned her position today “to pursue other opportunities”. Nelson succeeded Peter Ellis, who resigned in 2013 for family reasons.
During Nelson’s tenure, she led the newsroom through a complete redesign of the print product. She also assisted in the redesign of staugustine.com and in the development of the visitor website, visitstaug.com.
“I thank Kathy for her contributions and wish her much success in her future endeavors,” said Delinda Fogel, publisher of The Record. “We will begin an immediate search for an editor to lead our news organization.”
