Revived and ready, Historic City News readers will enjoy the popular Lincolnville Festival when it re-establishes itself as a great piece of the neighborhood’s culture on Saturday, November 14th and Sunday, November 15th at Eddie Vickers Park south of the Willie Galimore Center, located at 399 Riberia Street.
With a goal that was set in 1979 to revitalize the Lincolnville community, the Washington Street Festival, renamed the Lincolnville Festival two years later, celebrates the heritage and culture of the community founded in 1866 by recently freed slaves.
“Internationally known jazz musician Doug Carn will be one of the featured artists,” said Rev. Ron Rawls, representing St. Paul Development Center, host of the annual festival. “He will be joining several regional talents performing rock, jazz, reggae, soul, blues, country and gospel throughout the weekend.”
The weekend, expected to draw over 2,000 guests from surrounding areas, will include:
- Free live music (Sunday will feature local Gospel groups)
- Great food and drinks
- Local vendors
- Fun activities for the children
“Our sponsors have been generous beyond our hopes; but, we need a final push from our friends to make this historic festival a success in this comeback year,” Rawls told local reporters. “No gift is too small and you will be surprised how much you can help by a small donation and simply sharing the campaign.”
