Park Ranger Chris Leverett invites Historic City News readers on a special evening Torchlight Tour of Fort Matanzas National Monument on Saturday, January 23, 2016. Each tour will include an 18th century cannon firing demonstration.
Tours will depart the Fort Matanzas Visitor Center dock at 6:00, 6:45, 7:30 and 8:15 p.m. Advanced tickets for this special event are required, and seating is limited to 30-visitors on each tour. Tickets cannot be exchanged for a later tour due to the limited availability.
“The tour will include a nighttime ferry ride to Fort Matanzas and a step back in time,” Ranger Leverett told Historic City News. “Upon arrival at Fort Matanzas, visitors will enter the year 1743 and meet Spanish soldiers stationed to keep watch over and defend the southern approach to St. Augustine.”
Tickets can be purchased over the phone by calling (904) 829-6506 x232 or at the ticket booth located at Castillo de San Marcos National Monument in St. Augustine. The cost will be $10.00 per adult, children 15 and under $5.
All ticket holders must check in and collect their ticket at the Fort Matanzas visitor center on the day of the event, 30 minutes before the intended tour. Due to the popularity of this event, purchasing tickets on the night of the event may not be possible.
