Shannon O’Neil, Director of Public Relations for the St. Augustine Lighthouse and Maritime Museum has invited all Historic City News readers to partake in a St. Patrick’s Day celebration at Ancient City Brewing to benefit the Lighthouse research and education programs.
Green beer and shipwreck artifacts will be just two highlights of a special fundraising event planned for March 16th at Ancient City Brewing. The local craft beer purveyor will open its doors to the public from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. for a St. Patrick’s Day themed night featuring live music, barbecue, and a bicycle raffle. Artifacts from a 1782 British Loyalist shipwreck will also be on display from the St. Augustine Lighthouse & Maritime Museum.
“We can’t thank Ancient City Brewing, Folio Weekly, and Island Bicycle enough for putting on this event for us,” said Theresa Floyd, Chairman of the Museum’s Board of Trustees. “Community support and stewardship is what saved the Light Station and created our Museum nearly three decades ago. It’s wonderful to know that it continues today.”
Six local bands are donating their time to play for the event including 2nd Hand Band, Ramona Quimby, Fermin Spanish Guitar Duo, Ivan Smith & Wayne Schaeffler, Rumbel Street, and Ty Cowell. A1A Cycle also donated a beach cruiser bicycle with a custom-painted chain guard sponsored by Folio Weekly. Guests can purchase raffle tickets for the beach cruiser in advance or at the event for $5.00. Sporks Food Truck will be providing food for the event.
“One dollar from each beer sold will be contributed to the Museum, as well as the proceeds from the bicycle raffle, and any other donations collected at the event,” O’Neil told local reporters. “Support from St. Augustine businesses and residents enables us to preserve important stories that not only provide insight into our city’s early beginnings, but into the earliest days of our nation’s formation as well.”
This includes overseeing preservation of the historic Light Station, winter, spring, and summer break camp programs, academic lectures, and exhibitions like the new Wrecked! Exhibit; set to launch in May 2016.
