Two missing after dropping mother at Jacksonville airport

Saturday morning, Ashley Stapleton and her 2-year-old son, Killian, left their St Augustine home with 58-year-old Lonnie Sheffield, heading for the Jacksonville International Airport.

According to a report verified by Historic City News this morning, the three arrived at the airport at 8:00 a.m. and Ashley Stapleton was dropped off, as planned.

The St Augustine Police Department reports that Sheffield was driving a 2013 white Nissan Rouge with Florida tag, EQYB18.

When both Killian Stapleton and Lonnie Sheffield had not returned home when expected, Carolyn Sheffield called police at about 10:22 p.m. to report them missing.

Sheffield has a breathing condition that includes shortness of breath, wheezing, and a chronic cough. He requires medication, prompting concern by family members.

Local police spokesman Mark Samson told reporters that they have notified the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and Jacksonville Airport Police. At this time, there has been no response to the notifications.

Several hospitals were notified and none of them are reporting contact with either missing person.

None of the boy’s family members consider him in any danger to be traveling in Sheffield’s care, other than Sheffield’s medical condition. No expectation of foul play has been reported.

The police have entered the identification information in both the Florida and National Crime Information Center databases as “missing persons” only.
