An alert has been issued by the City of St Augustine to Historic City News readers on Anastasia Island and Davis Shores that a sewer force main break has occurred on Old Quarry Road (near Alligator Farm) and repair crews will be working in the area until the service is restored.

Any concerns or questions about the work should be directed to the Public Works Department at 904.826.1040 during business hours or after hours at 904.825.1044.

Old Quarry Rd. likely to remain closed to through traffic tonight

Public Works crews from the City of St. Augustine are expected to continue work through the evening to complete the repair of a force main sewer line break on Old Quarry Rd. It is likely that traffic on Old Quarry Rd. will continue to be detoured until early tomorrow morning.

The break did not involve the city’s water supply and at no time has the city’s water supply been compromised.

Tank trucks have worked continuously since the break, which occurred late this morning, to recover sewage from pump stations on Oglethorpe Blvd., Arredondo Ave. Matanzas Blvd. and Coquina Ave. to alleviate the potential of overflow while repairs are made. In addition to city equipment, additional tank trucks are being employed from other jurisdictions, including the City of Palm Coast and St. Johns County. As work will continue through the evening, the public’s patience and understanding will be appreciated as the city crews continue to work.

The quick and continued work by tank truck crews has thus far prevented any back up of the system that would affect residential use of the sewer system.

City personnel will continue monitoring locations, such as manhole covers and sewer access points, where wastewater may back up and enter the street. The public is to use caution and avoid contact with any standing water in those areas.
