The body of an adult man discovered at about 11:00 p.m. Sunday night on the side of the road near 570 Christopher Street in West Augustine, has been identified, according to an update provided to Historic City News by Commander Charles E. Mulligan today.
Dr. Predrag Bulic, Chief of the 23rd District Medical Examiner’s Office, identified 22-year-old Carlos Javon Sanders of Putnam County as the shooting victim. The manner of death has been ruled a homicide, and the cause of death has been ruled a gunshot wound following completion of today’s autopsy.
As deputies continue their investigation, Historic City News has learned that it is believed the shooting resulted from an attempted home invasion.
During the robbery attempt, occupants inside discharged at least one firearm, striking Sanders, Mulligan said.
St Johns County Major Crimes Detectives are still trying to identify and locate both occupants of the residence, as well as others who may have been present at the time of the shooting.
