Historic City News learned that at about 8:17 a.m. Tuesday, the body of a teenager was discovered on the north side of the roadway along SR-312, west of Plantation Island Drive; the apparent victim of a hit-and-run crash.
A passerby called police to report the discovery of the white male whose name has not yet been released. St Johns County Fire Rescue responded to the scene with police.
Evidence collected at the scene leads traffic homicide investigators to believe that the teen was struck by a 2003-2007 Chevrolet Silverado or GMC Sierra and left to die on the side of the highway.
The vehicle will likely be missing a mirror and may have additional passenger-side damage. The actual make, model and color or the vehicle is unknown. This photo is for reference only.
If you witnessed this incident or know the identity or whereabouts of the driver of the vehicle involved, you can remain anonymous and earn a reward by calling Crime Stoppers of Northeast Florida at 1-888-277-8477 or the St. Augustine Police Department at 904-825-1070.
