The Guana Tolomato Matanzas National Estuarine Research Reserve is registering volunteers for a Beach Cleanup scheduled for Saturday, November 19th from 7:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the North Beach Access Parking Lot and needs available Historic City News readers to help.
In October, there was a two-day post-Hurricane Matthew cleanup with volunteers helping out from several community businesses and organizations, but there is still more work to be done.
“Gloves and bags will be provided, but if you have one, bring a 5-gallon bucket for collecting trash and then dumping into a garbage bag,” volunteer coordinator Shannon Rininger said. “Bring a water bottle, wear closed toe shoes, and dress for the weather.”
To easily record each item of trash collected, volunteers can download Clean Swell, Ocean Conservancy’s mobile data collection app. For iPhones, click here. For Android phones, click here.
Call 904-823-4500 to register, or come out to help at the GTM Research Reserve North Beach Access Lot, located at 1600 South Ponte Vedra Boulevard, Ponte Vedra Beach.
“We are very grateful to those who continue to come out and help,” said Michael Shirley, director of the GTM Research Reserve.
