Local St. Augustine reporters at Historic City News have learned that in the wee hours after midnight on Saturday morning, Police Officer Michael Linsky observed Donald Kaylor chasing another white male through traffic in the area of King Street and Cordova Street.
According to the police report, vehicles in the area had to take evasive action to avoid hitting the two men.
As the officer exited his patrol vehicle to contact the men, Kaylor punched the other man in his face. The victim fell to the ground unconscious; in the middle of the street.
Linskey ordered Kaylor to stop, but Kaylor ran from the scene.
When Officer Linskey caught Kaylor, he placed him under arrest. As Kaylor was being handcuffed, Linskey witnessed Michael Buchtel dragging the victim out of the street.
Witnesses at the scene told police that Buchtel was part of the fight and that the incident had been captured on video. Buchtel was detained as Linskey watched the video.
The video showed that Buchtel punched the victim several times while he was on his back, in the street. When Kaylor joined in the fight, the victim could be seen standing up and attempting to run.
Emergency medical personnel arrived on the scene and transported the victim to Flagler Hospital.
24 year-old Kaylor who lives at 9730 Oliver Av in Hastings was charged with battery, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest without violence and was released on October 23rd after posting a $1,200 appearance bond.
22 year-old Buchtel who lives at 739 Junction Rd in Crescent City was charged with battery and disorderly conduct and was released on October 23rd after posting a $700 appearance bond.
Community Affairs Officer Barbara Stevens of the St. Augustine Police Department reports that the victim knew both Kaylor and Buchtel. They were trying to fight him all night because he was in a relationship with one of their ex-girlfriends.
