Dr. Richard Shortlidge reports to Historic City News that a new living history group, Los Presidiales de San Agustín, is now forming.
This group of historical re-enactors will present the inhabitants of the late 17th and early 18th century presidio of San Agustín de la Florida.
The purpose of this group will be to offer a historically accurate, research-based presentation of the residents of colonial St. Augustine and Florida including civilian, soldier, sailor, white, black, Native American inhabitants whether male or female, enslaved or free.
Heritage interpretations will include period crafts and trades, the fine arts of that time – music, dance, theater – and colonial religious customs.
Los Presidiales will be dedicated to fostering an understanding of our state’s early history through public programs, events, demonstrations, portrayals, media relations, and publications.
