Historic City News received an announcement from Jo McIntire informing us that People for Peace and Justice (PPJ), Veterans for Peace (VfP) and Grandparents For Peace (GfP) are once again co-sponsoring the annual Peace Scholarship; which has been renamed the Peg McIntire Peace Scholarship.
This is a tribute to Peg’s role in founding PPJ and GfP and her lifetime commitment to peace and social justice issues.
McIntire said, “This year we are hoping to raise the scholarship amount to $1,000 in hopes of attracting more applicants and of helping the winner more in these difficult financial times.”
Any high school senior in any St. Johns County public or private school is eligible to apply. The money is awarded directly to the student and can be used for any type of post high school education or training.
More details are available on the PPJ website.
To this end, there will be a “garage sale” in the parking lot of Loose Screws located at 125 King St on Sunday December 7th, from 9:00 A.Mm until 3:00 P.M.
Jo and Sally McIntire have generously donated a number of Peg’s belongings to be sold.
Funds are always welcome. Checks can be sent to “Grandparents for Peace”, c/o Renee Mintz, 347 St. George Street, St. Augustine, FL 32084.
