Just over 2,000 voters cast ballots during first weekend of Early Voting

With less than an hour left during the first weekend of early voting in St Johns County, Supervisor of Elections Vicky Oakes reported to Historic City News that the process mapped out for this year’s August 28th Primary Election is working smoothly — even though voter turnout is light.

Although, as of Sunday, there are 184,254 registered St Johns County voters, only 183,699 voters qualified to cast a ballot in the Primary Election when the voter registration books closed July 30, 2018.  Voters who missed the deadline to participate in the Primary Election, will continue be able to register for the November 6, 2018 General Election until October 9, 2018.

There have been 2,097 early voting ballots cast in the past two-days; representing 18.12% of the ballots cast so far.  Another 9,476 “vote-by-mail” ballots have been returned, representing 81.88% of the ballots cast so far.  The total of 11,573 ballots that have been cast or counted represents only 6.30% of those qualified.

In person voting will continue between 9:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., daily, through Saturday, August 25, 2018 at the following locations:

When voting in person, you are required to provide current and valid photograph identification with signature.  If you don’t have proper identification, you may only vote a provisional ballot.

Chapter 101.043 Florida Statutes identification required at polls:

1. Florida driver’s license.
2. Florida identification card issued by the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles.
3. United States passport.
4. Debit or credit card.
5. Military identification.
6. Student identification.
7. Retirement center identification.
8. Neighborhood association identification.
9. Public assistance identification.
10. Veteran heath ID card issued by U.S. Dept. of Veterans Affairs
11. License to carry a concealed weapon or firearm issued pursuant to section 790.06, F.S.
12. Employee ID card issued by any branch, department, agency, or entity of the Federal Government, the state, county, or a municipality

If the photo identification does not contain the signature of the elector, an additional identification that does provide the elector’s signature shall be required. The signature does not need to come from the items listed above. The above list is only for photo identification.
