Early voting off to an excellent start

In St Johns County, thousands of voters headed to the polls beginning at 8:00 a.m. this morning; and, with little exception, continued steadily until the doors closed at 6:00 p.m. According to Supervisor of Elections Vicky Oakes, over 6,800 voters cast their ballot in the first day of Early Voting in the 2018 General Election.

Historic City News learned that 16,672 additional voters have already returned a ballot to the Elections Office by mail. Collection of ballots from specially designated drop boxes and the post office will continue up to Election Day, November 6, 2018.

There are 187,429 registered voters in St Johns County, of which 98,542 are designated Republicans. There are only 44,867 Democrats, less than half the number of registered Republican voters, and an almost equal number of voters, 44,020, who are either registered without party affiliation or with minor parties.

Early voting will continue between 8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. daily, including Saturday and Sunday, until November 3, 2018.
