Heaven, they say, protects children, sailors, and drunken men; and in the wee hours of the morning Friday, a little grace was left over to make its way to a local St. Augustine woman who flipped her speeding car and walked away, unharmed.
According to a report from the St. Augustine Police Department, 25 year-old Heather Marie Spuhler, who resides at 157 Marine Street in St. Augustine, was traveling at a high rate of speed on North Ponce de Leon Boulevard when she struck another car from behind.
The collision caused Spuhler’s car to flip over and crash — the other car involved barreled into the rocky foundation of the north City Gates; one hundred yards from the initial point of impact.
Police say Spuhler failed a field sobriety test following the crash and that no one was hurt.
Spuhler was arrested at the scene and transported to the St. Johns County Detention Facility just minutes before midnight Thursday; where she was charged with driving under the influence with damage to property, a first degree misdemeanor. She was released after posting a $500 appearance bond on Friday.
