St. Johns County Fire Rescue announced to Historic City News today the following selection for 2008 Firefighter of the Year.
They winner was selected based on nominations received from his peers, with the final decision being made by a department appointed awards committee.
The 2008 award winner, Engineer Jeff Mrwik, was selected by the committee for Firefighter of the Year.
Engineer Mrwik was recently awarded a Unit Commendation for his role in the rescue of an unconscious victim at a structure fire in St. Augustine Beach.
Personnel who nominated Engineer Mrwik spoke highly of his work ethic and mentoring of personnel assigned to him.
His attention to detail and his motivation for self improvement are commendable.
Engineer Mrwik also transcends his commitment to the profession through his role as an officer in his own community volunteer fire department.
